About us

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences was established on August 1, 1998. Our goal is two-fold. First, we offer an international and multicultural environment for the study of the humanities and social sciences to trigger student's learning potential, broaden their horizon, and extend their social concern to become one equipped with both the expertise of technology and decent character. Second, we aim to develop our strong suit in the research of the humanities and social sciences, facilitating the communion with the disciplines of science and technology and promoting the integration of humanity and technology.

At present, our college consists of the Graduate Institute of Digital Learning and Education, the Department of Applied Foreign Languages, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Teacher Education Center. Our college currently has 33 full-time faculty members, 7 administrative staff members.

In teaching, our college accentuates the idea of "whole-person education" and aims to strengthen the graduates' humanistic literacy and competitiveness in the job market through the cultivation of language communication ability, critical thinking, and leadership.

In research, in addition to elevating the research resources for our faculty, we encourage our faculty members to apply for various research grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education, to proactively publish their research articles and books, and to conduct cross-disciplinary research that brings together the humanities and the sciences.

The College also reaches out beyond the campus by encouraging research collaboration between academia and industry, and fostering the practice of university social responsibility (USR) with social organizations with a hope to translate theory into practice.
